This book starts of with Watson and his friend Sherlock Holmes in the living room drinking tea and reading the mail/newspaper. When suddenly Sherlock Holmes reads a letter sent to him from an old acquaintance of Watson named Mr. Ferguson. It turns out that he thinks his wife is a vampire/madwoman because she was found sucking the blood out of her little baby's neck and was also accused of attacking their first born son twice.

After a few minutes of consideration ,Holmes decides to take up the case. When he arrives he is met by a tall and frail looking man .It turned out that he was Mr. Ferguson. After a round of questioning they decided to go to his house for further investigation. When they got there they started searching for clues .Then they met Mrs. Ferguson's close friend who cared for her. They soon found out that Mrs. Ferguson was ill so Waston,being a doctor, treated her.

A few things happened, mystery's were solved, clues were found, evidence was confirmed and the case was solved. It turns out that the Ferguson's first born son, little Jackie, was jealous that his father loved his little brother and his step-mother more than he loved him . So he framed his step-mom for hitting him and attempted to poison his brother. That is why Mrs. Ferguson was sucking the baby's blood , she was trying to suck out the poison.
The case was solved and little Jackie was sent to an army school .
